Incident Reported Near Kyrgyz Parliament

Parliament building in Bishkek (file photo) (RFE/RL) August 2, 2006 -- An incident involving army soldiers and officers occurred on August 1 near Kyrgyzstan's parliament in Bishkek.

Kyrgyz media reports say some 40 communication troops led by First Deputy Defense Minister Zamirbek Moldoshev briefly cordoned off the parliament building, demanding that they be allowed in.

They left only after Interior Ministry officials were called in.

The conflict reportedly erupted after deputy parliament speaker Kubanychbek Isabekov two days ago ordered the Defense Ministry's main communication directorate to vacate the offices it had been using in the building.

President Kurmanbek Bakiev today discussed the incident with Defense Minister Ismail Isakov.
