Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki, meanwhile, said UN sanctions will not force Iran to abandon its nuclear program.

On December 5, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany met to discuss possible sanctions against Iran over its refusal to stop enriching uranium.
