Uzbek President Begins Singapore Visit


January 24, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- Uzbek President Islam Karimov has left Tashkent for a three-day state visit to Singapore that ends on January 26.


Karimov is scheduled to have talks with President Sellapan Rama Nathan and other Singaporean officials.


Uzbekistan's official media say trade volume between the two countries is growing rapidly and exceeded $86 million in 2006.


A statement posted on Karimov's website says he will sign several bilateral document during his visit.
