Tajikistan To Open Financial Sector To Foreign Banks

(RFE/RL) April 25, 2007 -- Tajikistan's central bank chief, Murodali Alimardonov, said today that his country intends to open its banking sector to foreign banks.

Alimardonov said President Emomali Rahmon would announce during an address to parliament slated for April 30 that "all banks can freely enter and operate in Tajikistan."

Reports say several foreign banks have already signaled interest in working in Tajikistan.

Tajikistan is the poorest of the former Soviet republics in Central Asia.
