10 Killed In Russian Cafe Blast


(RFE/RL) May 13, 2007 -- Russian news agencies reported today that 10 people were killed when a blast tore through a cafe overnight in the town of Orsk, in Russia's southern Orenburg Oblast.

A spokesman for the Emergency Situations Ministry, Viktor Beltsov, said the building had been completely destroyed by the blast and subsequent fire.

Officials said they are unsure of the cause of the blast, but that it may have been intended to cover up a murder.

In other news, a bomb exploded in a railroad official's car in southern Russia today, killing the driver and seriously injuring the official.

Police said the blast occurred while the official, Omari Alilov, was traveling in the capital of Daghestan, Makhachkala. Alilov heads a department in the Makhachkala office of the regional railway system.
