U.S. Official Meets Kyrgyz NGO Leaders


(RFE/RL) BISHKEK, June 7, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher has met with several leaders of Kyrgyz nongovernmental organizations, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reported.


Boucher met them at the U.S. Embassy in Bishkek after his arrival in Kyrgyzstan today.


They discussed the latest political developments in Kyrgyzstan, including constitutional-reform efforts and press freedom.


Boucher said the United States will give Kyrgyzstan some $20 million to help to reform the Kyrgyz judiciary system.


Boucher is set to meet with Kyrgyz officials to discuss bilateral relations issues during his visit.
