Tajikistan Opens Terror Probe Into Supreme Court Blast

Tajikistan's Supreme Court after the June 16 explosion June 18, 2007 -- Tajikistan's State Committee on National Security has launched a criminal case into a suspected terrorist attack in the capital.

The blast on June 16 outside the building of the Supreme Court in Dushanbe caused no casualties, but did cause some damage to the building.

Dushanbe Prosecutor Qurbonali Muhabbatov called the blast a terrorist attack aimed at intimidating the population or employees of the court.

Tajik authorities have blamed earlier bombing attacks in the capital on a banned extremist group, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan.
