Yevhenia Tymoshenko, the daughter of jailed former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, has demanded access to medical treatment abroad for her mother.
The younger Tymoshenko told RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service that her mother needs immediate surgery and "such treatment can only be conducted by independent doctors outside Ukraine."
Speaking just days ahead of the second anniversary of her mother's detention on August 5, she said the right to such access is "fully in line with Ukrainian law."
Tymoshenko is serving a seven-year prison term on charges of abuse of office that she and Western governments say are politically motivated.
In June, a group of German physicians examined Tymoshenko at a clinic in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv where she has been undergoing treatment for back pain since May 2012.
