Court In Tatarstan Sends Suspected Member Of Freedom Of Russia Legion To Pretrial Detention


A court in Russia's Republic of Tatarstan on July 20 sent to pretrial detention for at least two months a suspected member of the Freedom of Russia legion that is fighting alongside Ukrainian forces against occupying Russian troops. Sergei Novikov was detained a day earlier on suspicion of being a member of a terrorist organization, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison. Investigators allege Novikov planned a massive arson attack at military equipment near a military school in Tatarstan's capital, Kazan.
