Russian, Afghan Presidents Discuss Combating Drugs

Russia says the Afghan president called his Russian counterpart to discuss the fight against drugs.

The Kremlin said that during the conversation, Hamid Karzai and Dmitry Medvedev spoke in favor of "further expansion of joint efforts" in that field.

The phone conversation comes a week after a drug raid conducted jointly by U.S., Afghan, and Russian agents near the border with Pakistan.

Karzai has complained that he hadn't been informed in advance of Russian participation in the NATO-led drug raid that netted $56 million worth of heroin and morphine.
