Moscow authorities’ May 14 decision not to allow a march in support of bearded drag queen Conchita Wurst of Austria, the winner of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, has been appealed.
Russian gay activists' website says Moscow's leading gay activist, Nikolai Alekseyev, has officially appealed the city authorities' decision at Moscow's Preobrazhensky District Court on May 16.
The activists had planned "The Conchita Wurst March of Bearded Women and Men" in Moscow for May 27, the 21st anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexual relations in Russia.
Wurst, whose real name is Thomas Neuwirth, won Eurovision in Copenhagen on May 10.
Also on May 16, Alekseyev officially applied to the Moscow mayor's office for permission to hold a gay-pride parade in the Russian capital on May 31.
