Russian anticorruption blogger and opposition political activist Aleksei Navalny has been nominated for a spot on the board of directors of Russia's national air carrier, Aeroflot.
The National Reserve Bank, which owns 15 percent of Aeroflot and is controlled by billionaire former KGB agent Aleksandr Lebedev, nominated the 35-year-old Navalny for a minority seat on the board late on February 13.
The Russian government controls 51.17 percent of Aeroflot.
It is not clear when the shareholders will vote on the nomination, but Navalny has told "The Moscow Times" newspaper that he will accept the position if it is offered.
Lebedev also controls Britain's "Evening Standard" and "The Times" newspapers, as well as Russia's opposition "Novaya gazeta."
