More than 200 people are reported to have been injured in clashes in Cairo between pro-democracy activists and what's described as supporters of Egypt's military regime.
The state-run MENA news agency said 231 people were injured in the July 23 clashes, and the Egyptian Health Ministry said 39 people were hospitalized.
Reports say the violence broke out as up to 10,000 protesters were attempting to march to the Defense Ministry to urge the military regime to speed up reforms and Egypt's transition to democratic civilian rule.
Reports say men hurled stones and firebombs and used other weapons against the protesters, who fought back.
Army troops are reported to have fired into the air to disperse protesters.
The march coincided with the 59th anniversary of Egypt's 1952 military coup that toppled the monarchy and brought a series of military leaders to office.
The current military council has ruled Egypt since February 11, when former President Hosni Mubarak left office amid popular protests against his rule.
