Government Crackdown In Syria Kills 25

Twenty-five people were reported killed in the past 24 hours during a government security crackdown in a northern Syrian town.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the deaths occurred in Jisr al-Shughour and included 19 civilians and six members of the security forces.

The operation is part of a crackdown that began on June 4 and was continuing June 5.

State-run news agency SANA said four policemen were killed and more than 20 wounded in the area when "armed terrorist" groups attacked government buildings and police stations.

Rights groups say more than 1,100 civilians have been killed and at least 10,000 arrested in Syria since antigovernment protests erupted in March.
