Deadly Violence Flares Over Disputed Nagorno-Karabakh Region
Fresh fighting broke out between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh on September 27 and spilled over into a second day. Dozens of fatalities were reported as both sides blamed the other for starting the hostilities. The two countries fought a war in the 1990s over the territory, and have seen periodic outbreaks of violence in the decades since.
