Senior Iranian official accuses Saudi Arabia of playing a role in the protests:

Syria condemned Tuesday the US and Israeli stances on the wave of anti-government protests in Iran and announced its total solidarity with Tehran, DPA reports.

"The Syrian Arab Republic expresses its strong condemnation and absolute rejection of the positions issued by the American administration and the Zionist entity and their agents regarding the current situation in Iran," the official Syrian News Agency SANA quoted a foreign ministry source as saying.

The agency said that Damascus declares its full solidarity with the Islamic Republic and stressed its firm belief that "the leadership, government and people of Iran will be able to thwart this conspiracy."
