The abuse-of-office trial of former Kyrgyz parliament speaker Akmatbek Keldibekov has been postponed again.
The Birinchi Mai District Court ruled on July 15 that Keldibekov's trial must be postponed until July 22 due to his health condition.
Keldibekov's lawyer, Azimbek Beknazarov, says his client has undergone four recent surgeries on his leg and is expected to have a fifth one soon. It is not clear what exactly prompted the surgeries.
A member of the opposition Ata-Jurt (Fatherland) party, Keldibekov, whose trial was previously postponed from July 10 to July 15, was arrested in November and charged with abuse of office and financial misdeeds while running the State Social Fund and Tax Service.
He also served as parliament speaker between 2010 and 2011.
Last month, Kyrgyz lawmakers demanded Keldibekov's transfer to house arrest due to his poor health.
The court denied the request.
