Police in Kosovo say a jailed supporter of an opposition party has died in detention under what they described as unclear circumstances.
A police statement on November 6 said an autopsy would be conducted to clarify what killed Astrit Dehari, an activist from Kosovo’s opposition Self-Determination Movement.
The movement blames Kosovo’s government for Dehari's death and is expressing doubts about media reports suggesting he arrived dead at a hospital after allegedly swallowing a fatal dose of prescription medicine.
Dehari and five other supporters of the opposition party were arrested in late August for alleged involvement in a rocket-propelled grenade attack that damaged the exterior of the parliament building in Pristina but caused no casualties.
The attack on August 4 took place amid political tensions over Pristina’s agreement with neighboring Montenegro about their common border.
Opposition parties oppose the deal, saying it cedes territory to Montenegro.
