Eric Rubin, deputy assistant secretary Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, U.S. Department of State, has told a congressional hearing today that the new Ukrainian government is taking promising steps to get Ukraine back on its feet and Washington stands ready to support it. He called the $1 billion loan guarantee Washington is preparing for Ukraine an example of the strength of the U.S. commitment. He was speaking to a meeting of the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs in Washington chaired by Congressman Ed Royce.

Yatsenyuk says he talked to Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev a few days ago and told him to "step back."

Prime Minister Yatsenyuk says that "this government was supported by an overwhelming constitutional majority of 371 votes." He says the entire opposition supported the government and its program, and that it was supported by the Verkhovna Rada and the Ukrainian people.
He describes Russia as "not friendly, as you probably realized," adding, "And where is the limit?"
