A Russian court has overturned a ruling to keep one of the suspects in opposition politician Boris Nemtsov’s killing in pretrial detention.
However, the Moscow City Court said in its April 1 ruling that the suspect, Khamzat Bakhayev, will remain behind bars until a new hearing is held.
Bakhayev, who took part in the hearing via video, said he was not guilty.
He is one of five suspects in custody over the February 27 slaying of Nemtsov, a former deputy prime minister who was one of President Vladimir Putin's harshest critics and a vocal opponent of Russia's interference in Ukraine.
Russian news agencies said investigators told the court that the chief suspect, Zaur Dadayev, has confessed to the crime and given evidence implicating Bakhayev and the others.
It was unclear whether the investigators were referring to any new statements from Dadayev or to what a judge said shortly after his arrest had been a confession.
Dadayev later retracted that confession, and a rights activist who visited him in jail said there signs he had been tortured.
