In Slovakia, Roma Grapple With Social Divisions And Real Walls
Despite broad antidiscrimination laws passed a decade ago, Roma in Slovakia continue to feel the effects of years of institutionalized segregation. In the country's east, Romany children are still sent to separate classes in some schools, and a few communities are literally divided by the walls built by their white neighbors.
