Serbs in northern Kosovo say the European Union's Rule of Law Mission, known as EULEX, is no longer welcome to work in their communities.
RFE/RL’s Balkan Service reports that Serb leaders from four municipalities -- Leposavic, Zubin Potok, Zvecan, and Mitrovica-North -- decided on the evening of April 16 to halt cooperation with EULEX.
The move follows the arrest earlier this month of a Kosovo Serb in connection with the killing of an ethnic Albanian Kosovo police officer.
The officer, Enver Zymberi, was shot dead by a sniper in northern Kosovo in July 2011.
Nemanja Jaksic, president of the local assembly of the town of Zubin Potok, told RFE/RL that the arrest had caused tensions with EULEX and Serbs in northern Kosovo will not cooperate with the EU mission until a number of issues are addressed.
EULEX has so far not commented the decision to halt cooperation.
