The Power Vertical Feed

In this space, I will regularly comment on events in Russia, repost content and tweets I find interesting and informative, and shamelessly promote myself (and others whose work I like). The traditional Power Vertical Blog remains for larger and more developed items. The Podcast, of course, will continue to appear every Friday. I hope you find the new Power Vertical Feed to be a useful resource and welcome your feedback.

Putin on China:

Trade between the two countries is growing -- I have no doubt that it will grow even further. We are paying greater attention to change the structure of trade, expanding share of high technologies, building nuclear power plants etc.

What is most important: We have many coinciding interests in international arena. We cooperate at the United Nations -- this is one of the major elements that stablize situation in today's world.

Putin: Don't we also have the right to ensure our own security?

Putin in response to BBC reporter on Russian agression -- blames West:

Putin: As for our exercises. You stated that Russia contributed to the tension we're witnessing in the world. Russia has contributed to the tension only in that we're protecting our interests in a more agressive ways. We aren't encroaching on anyone else's interests. We're just protecting our own.

You've mentioned our strategic aviation flights. Did you know that Russia totally stopped our strategic aviation flights? We totally stopped them. The American strategic aircraft with nuclear weapons on board continued their flights. Why? So two to three years ago we resumed the practice.

But who provoked it. Was it us? I don't think so.

American bases are all over the world, but you're trying to say that we're being agressive. What about the Americans? What about their tactical nuclear weapons?
