Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has accepted the nomination of the United Russia party to be a candidate for president.
Putin told delegates at the United Russia party congress in Moscow he was grateful to those who forwarded him as a candidate.
He also warned the West not to interfere in Russia's elections, saying "Russia is a democratic country, it's a reliable and predictable partner with which they can and must reach agreement, but on which they cannot impose anything from the outside."
In his speech, current President Dmitry Medvedev praised Putin: "The candidate for presidency, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, is indeed the most popular, the most experienced, and the most successful politician in modern Russia."
Medvedev also called on Russia's citizens to vote for the United Russia party in December 4 parliamentary elections.
