Romanian farmers have again blocked the movement of trucks at the Siret checkpoint near the border with Ukraine, authorities on both sides said on January 14. Romanian farmers are demanding the government provide assistance, including with subsidies, to counter high insurance rates and to compete with a flood of Ukrainian products entering the European Union. A similar protest on January 13 disrupted traffic for six hours, Ukrainian border officials said. Car and bus traffic was not affected.
