Russia's Investigative Committee said on July 26 that former Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov had been arrested on corruption charges. Bulgakov was dismissed in September 2022 after serving as deputy defense minister for almost 14 years. His detention comes after several other top military and Defense Ministry officials were arrested on corruption charges before and after Putin dismissed his longtime ally, Sergei Shoigu, as defense minister in mid-May.
