Russian officials added self-exiled Chechen activist Abubakar Yangulbayev to its list of "extremists and terrorists" on August 30. A few days earlier, Yangulbayev had been put on Russia's wanted list. Yangulbayev fled Russia due to persecution by Chechen authorities for alleged actions linked to the opposition movement 1ADAT, led by his brothers Ibragim and Baysangur Yangulbayev. The Yangulbayev brothers are well-known critics of Ramazan Kadyrov, the authoritarian leader of Russia's North Caucasus region of Chechnya.
