Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained a leading member of the Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy, a liberal think tank, on bribery allegations. Sergei Sinyelnikov-Murylyov, director of research, was arrested on April 27. A Moscow court ordered him detained for two months. However, Russian news portal Baza said Sinyelnikov-Murylyov will be kept under house arrest. He is charged with stealing 1 million rubles ($12,5oo). He could not be immediately reached for comment. The institute was set up by Yegor Gaidar, who served as acting prime minister in 1992 as Russia began its bumpy transition to a market economy.
