Reports: Russian Troops Detain Georgian Man

TBILISI -- Russian troops have reportedly detained a Georgian national near the administrative boundary between Georgia and its breakaway South Ossetia region.

Local residents in the village of Ditsi say that Rostom Sosiashvili, 24, was detained by Russian soldiers on May 30.

On May 27, Georgia's Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze expressed concern over the installation of barbed-wire fences by Russian troops near the village.

Locals complained that the fences were installed a few hundred meters beyond the administrative boundary, meaning they will not be able to use the land beyond the fences as pasture any more.

Moscow has been keeping its troops in Georgia's separatist regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia since it recognized the two breakaway regions' independence following its brief war with Georgia in August 2008.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
