The Memorial human right group says the head of its branch in the Russian city of Perm, Aleksandr Chernyshov, has been ordered to serve 15 days in jail on a hooliganism charge stemming from his appearance in a Khimki court after his detention this week at a Moscow airport. Memorial quoted Chernyshov as saying he couldn't have acted out as he was in security custody the whole time. Memorial, a veteran group that has worked as a nonregistered entity since its official closure under pressure, has said Chernyshov's detention may be linked to a probe into Memorial's archive materials in Perm.
