Outspoken Tbilisi-Based Kremlin Critic Oleg Panfilov Dies At 65

Outspoken Kremlin critic, journalist, and writer Oleg Panfilov has died at the age of 65 in Tbilisi, Panfilov's wife, Oksana Maslak, wrote on Facebook on February 10. She did not give any details. The Tajikistan-born Panfilov used to head the Committee to Protect Journalists' office in Moscow and the Center of Extreme Journalism of the Russian Journalists' Union. He obtained Georgian citizenship in 2008 and moved to Tbilisi in 2009. For many years, Panfilov contributed to programs and projects of RFE/RL's Russian and Ukrainian services.
