A military court in Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula said on July 31 it had sentenced a soldier to 30 months in a colony settlement for refusal to go to war in Ukraine. A colony settlement is a dormitory-like penitentiary located near an industrial facility where convicts work alongside regular employees. TheSota Telegram channel identified the soldier as Grigory Mekhedov. Since the start of the partial mobilization to Moscow's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, 1,064 probes have been launched against soldiers and officers who illegally left their units, refused to follow orders, or deserted.
