Russia's State Museum in St. Petersburg has canceled an exhibition of works by artists from the Timur Novikov New Academy, citing "pornography propaganda," which it says was prevalent in some of the paintings. The announcement came on July 19, one day before the exhibition was to open. Oleg Maslov, an arts teacher at the academy, said the decision to cancel the exhibition was made by the museum’s director, Anna Manilova.
