Tajik officials have arrested a Russian soldier in connection with the killing of a woman at a Russian military base in Tajikistan.
Ivan Sherbakov, 26, was stationed at Russia's giant military base close to the Tajik capital, Dushanbe.
He is being held by Tajik authorities in connection with the killing of Shoira Jabborova.
Jabborova was reportedly invited by Sherbakov, a lieutenant, to an officer's dormitory on the base where she was found dead on November 5.
Tajikistan protested the killing in a diplomatic note and demanded Moscow "take the necessary measures to ensure similar actions by servicemen at the Russian military base" do not occur.
Russian military officials in Tajikistan told AFP they are cooperating with police in the investigation.
In August, two Russian soldiers at the same base were sentenced to prison sentences of 13 and 17 years by a Russian military court for murdering a Tajik taxi driver in Dushanbe in 2014.
