The former head of the Krymsky region, which was hit by flash flooding earlier this month that left more than 170 people dead, has been detained on charges of failing to fulfill his official duties.
Vasily Krutko was detained on July 22 along with the Krymsk Mayor Vladimir Ulanovsky and the acting head of the municipal emergency-warning committee Viktor Zhdanov.
The arrests come as the result of a massive investigation, including the questioning of 1,300 victims of the flooding and more than 400 medical analyses.
The head of Russia's Investigative Committee, Aleksandr Bastrykin, met with victims in Krymsk on July 22 to present the results of the investigation.
