Ukrainian Naftogaz plans to sign a new contract with Russian Gazprom in September. The contract will provide for a supply of natural gas for the coming winter. Naftogaz chairman Andriy Kobolyev made the statement today at the Yes Ukraine Forum.

As of September 8, Ukraine has accumulated 14.8 billion cubic meters of gas in underground storage. The heating season, however, will require another 4 more billion, said Naftogaz energy efficiency department head Yuriy Voytovych.

Naftogaz had stopped buying gas from Russian Gazprom until the sides reached an agreement on the conditions of supply. Right now Ukraine is only buying its gas from Europe.

Russia and Ukraine reached temporary arrangements brokered by the EU during winter last year.
