Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has announced she plans to run again for president.
Tymoshenko, 53, made the announcement at a press conference in Kyiv on March 27.
Parliament called the early election -- scheduled for May 25 -- after voting to oust President Viktor Yanukovych in February, following three months of antigovernment protests.
Candidates have until April 4 to register for the race.
Tymoshenko, who was Yanukovych's chief political rival, was subsequently released from a prison hospital in the eastern city of Kharkiv.
In 2011, she was jailed for seven years on charges of abuse of power that her supporters and many Western states believe amounted to political retribution.
She served twice as prime minister and ran for president in 2010, only to be narrowly beaten in a runoff vote by Yanukovych.
