Ukraine’s highest court has postponed until June 26 a hearing on the appeal by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko against her seven-year jail term for abuse of power.

The Specialized High Court for Civil and Criminal Cases issued the decision after prosecutors demanded that Tymoshenko be present at the hearing.

Tymoshenko is currently being treated at a hospital in the eastern city of Kharkiv, where she is recovering from a recent hunger strike and a back condition.

Tymoshenko and her supporters in the European Union and United States governments reject her conviction, saying her case appears to be a politically motivated persecution by her enemies.

Tymoshenko's lawyers said they plan to appeal the case to the European Court for Human Rights before the June hearing.
