American skiing great Bode Miller has condemned the law in Russia seen as anti-gay, calling it “ignorant” and “embarrassing.”

Miller spoke in Park City, Utah, as the United States prepares to choose its ski team for the 2014 Olympics in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi.

Miller, who has won five Olympic medals, is seeking to become a member of the U.S. Olympic team for the fifth time.

Miller said of the Russian law: "It is absolutely embarrassing that there are countries and people who are that intolerant, that ignorant.”

The law bans the spread of what it calls homosexual propaganda to minors. Critics say the law bars gay rights rallies and could be used to prosecute anyone voicing support for homosexuals.

Based on reports from Reuters and AP

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
