In a separate incident the same day, two police officers suffered injuries after being attacked by a group of five men whom the ministry identified as Chechens.
Officials say more than 40 law enforcement officers have been killed in Daghestan in 2005.
Also yesterday, the bodies of a school principal and his wife were found near Ashagastal-Kazmalyar in southern Daghestan. The couple's two sons, aged 26 and 30, were later found dead of knife and gunshot wounds.
