33 Miners Trapped In Siberian Mine


A Russian miner in the Kemerovo region (file photo) (ITAR-TASS) September 7, 2006 -- Thirty-three miners are reported to be trapped underground after a fire broke out inside a gold and metals mine in Siberia.


Thirty-one of the 64 men who were in the mine at the time of the incident managed to escape to the surface.


A rescue operations was under way in the mine, which is located in the Chita region of Siberia, close to the Chinese border.
