Poland Says Missile-Defense Talks Weeks Away

Jaroslaw Kaczynski (file photo) (epa) February 27, 2007 -- Polish Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski said today that negotiations on his country hosting part of a U.S. missile defense system could open within weeks.

The United States has proposed putting parts of the system in the Czech Republic and Poland, sparking protests from Russia.

Meanwhile, Czech Deputy Prime Minister Alexandr Vondra said today in Berlin that the system is intended to defend against threats from the Middle East. Vondra said the system is "certainly not aimed at Russia."
