The Supreme Court in Pakistan has summoned senior police officials to report on their investigation into the brutal rape of a five-year-old girl.
The police chief in the eastern province of Punjab submitted a report on September 14 about the initial findings of his probe into the reported rape a day earlier of a girl in the regional capital, Lahore.
Lahore's police said the girl was found in critical condition outside a hospital a day after she went missing from an impoverished neighborhood.
Punjab's law minister, Rana Sanaullah, vowed that the perpetrators of the crime will be given "exemplary punishments." Lahore's police have formed two investigation teams who are searching for the suspects.
