Police in Pakistan's southern seaport city of Karachi are investigating the murder of a kidnapped schoolgirl.
Senior Karachi police official Amir Farooqi told RFE/RL Radio Mashaal on September 27 that the 13-year-old girl was wearing a school uniform when her dead body was discovered on September 26.
He said that the police were investigating how the girl was kidnapped from a school in the city's Azizabad neighborhood earlier this week.
Simi Jamal, a specialist of forensic medicine in Karachi's Jinnah Hospital, told RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal that an autopsy confirmed the girl was raped before being strangled to death.
It is the second high-profile rape case in Pakistan this month.
Authorities in the eastern city of Lahore are investigating the rape of a 5-year-old, which sparked widespread protests.
