-- A tax evasion trial against jailed former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is due to resume on July 31 in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

Tymoshenko has written an official request asking authorities to let her skip the trial because of health concerns.

It was not immediately clear whether the request would be granted.

German doctors who've examined Tymoshenko say she needs eight more weeks of rest to recover.

The trial focuses on allegations that Tymoshenko evaded millions of U.S. dollars in taxes in connection with a private energy company she headed during the 1990s.

The trial was postponed on July 23 after Tymoshenko refused to attend, citing her poor health.

On July 30, Ukraine's united opposition added Tymoshenko and jailed former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko to its list of candidates in the October 28 parliamentary elections.
