Ukrainian air defenses shot down all 20 drones that were launched by Russia at five of its regions overnight, the military said early on May 17. The drones were downed over the Kharkiv, Poltava, Vinnytsya, Odesa and Mykolayiv regions, the Ukrainian Air Force reported. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. Separately, the military administrator of the Kharkiv region, Oleh Synyehubov, said five drones were shot down over Kharkiv city, and debris from a drone ignited a fire in one of the city's districts.
