Three Miners Escape From Russian Mine


Rescue workers recovering the body of a miner on September 8 (ITAR-TASS) September 9, 2006 -- Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry says three miners who had been trapped underground by a fire for nearly two days have managed to escape.


Interfax said the three walked out of the gold mine in Eastern Siberia without the help of rescuers, but gave no details.


Eighteen miners are still missing, and rescue efforts are under way.


On September 8, rescuers recovered the bodies of 12 miners.
