Prominent opposition activist and anticorruption blogger Aleksei Navalny has been elected to the board of directors of Russia's largest state airline, Aeroflot.
Navalny was nominated to the board by the National Reserve Bank of media tycoon Aleksander Lebedev that owns nearly 15 percent of Aeroflot. A lawyer by profession,
Navalny was among prominent opposition leaders who protested following disputed parliamentary elections in December.
He is currently being investigated as a witness with respect to violence that erupted during protests held on the eve of President Vladimir Putin's inauguration ceremony in May.
Often mentioned as a possible future presidential contender, Navalny has not ruled out the possibility that he might run for office one day.
